~ frequently asked questions ~

How hard is it to get a boat?
The industry average for filling requests is approximately 97%. Our plan is to exceed that.

How often can I use the boats?
Paid-up full members have unlimited use of all the different types of boats. This excludes the weekday members’ plan.

What is the cost comparison?
Boat club membership is approximately 1/3 the cost of owning a boat.

What locations can I use boats from?
Your Sea of Cortez membership allows use of any boat at any of our locations with no additional cost.

How does the Club work?
Think of us as an unlimited timeshare for boats. All you have to do is call at least a day in advance and reserve your boat for the day you want to use it.

How many times can I use a boat during the year?
No restrictions – as many times as you wish.

What type of boats does the Club own?
Our fleet consists of 22- to 34-foot powerboats. Every boat is fully equipped to meet your needs, whether that is a hard day fighting fish or a luxurious, leisurely cruise on the Sea.

How far can I take a boat?
A member can take a boat as far as you wish as long as you return to the dock at the planned time.

Are there any additional costs or hidden fees?
No. You pay only your initiation fee, monthly dues, and the actual fuel you use. The Boat Club pays for everything else – boat insurance, slip fees, maintenance, cleaning, repairs – we take care of it all!

What if I am not an experienced boater?
We will train you on the use of the boats, including onboard electronics. And many of our more experienced members are willing to take new members fishing with them until they become comfortable enough to go on their own. In addition to your initial training, we have instruction captains that you can hire to give you special hands-on training. This is also a great way to learn more about navigating in our local waters as well as finding the secret fishing spots.

What about safety?
All our boats are equipped with required safety equipment. Our fleet's VHF radios are DSC-equipped and have been integrated with the GPS systems. Every boat is registered, so in the event of an emergency, activation of the DSC button will send a distress signal with the boat’s current position, allowing emergency responders to know exactly where you are. All members are required to file a float plan detailing where they will be boating and when they will return. Then if a boater is late getting back, we will know where to look and who we are looking for.

What electronics are on each boat?
The Sea of Cortez Boat Club has state-of-the-art electronics. All of our boats come equipped with radar, GPS, transducer, and a VHF radio, and are fully rigged for safety.

Why do people join the Club?
The cost of boat ownership and the amount of hassle involved in keeping it afloat are two of the reasons previous boat owners as well as new boaters join our Boat Club. For them, it's valet boating, as they don’t have to deal with these issues. When they arrive at the Club, their boat is clean, filled with gas and loaded with water toys. They simply go out and enjoy their day on the water and when they're done, dock the boat, top off the tank and walk away.

For members who have no boating experience, the Club provides a quick course in boating safety along with personalized boating instruction.
